There are very few bereaved parent support groups in New Zealand due to a lack of national health leadership, coordination and funding.
We know as we have looked. We also know from experience, that connecting with other grieving parents can sometimes help fill a void which well-meaning friends and family can’t. Their worlds often move on despite your world collapsing.
Connecting has helped us find hope, it may well help you. The information provided here is current at the time of publication and is not intended to replace the advice of your health professional.
Together – Bereaved Parents Support Group - Auckland
Auckland Grief Centre
Each year the Grief Centre runs Support Groups in various locations across Auckland. The groups run for 8 weeks and provide peer support in a therapeutic group environment, facilitated by qualified Counsellors.
Heart Song, Wellington
A Skylight-facilitated group for parents in the Wellington region, who have been bereaved by the loss of a child. Heart Song is an open group that meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month and is free of charge.
Wainuiomata, Wellington Grief Support Network
Support for those who are experiencing grief through suicide or other death, particularly in the weeks and months after the event when initial support has often ceased. The WGSN is a resource service only and can advise of local professional support services. They do not provide grief counselling or crisis services.
Phone: 04 564 1338
We don't run grief support groups, provide counselling or therapeutic advice. We do help parents connect with others and share resources.
